AEW Grand Slam Mexico kicked off with an explosive eight-man tag team match that featured uneasy allies, championship implications, and plenty of chaos.

While several momentum swings kept the crowd guessing, one costly mistake ultimately changed everything before the dust settled.

The opening contest saw AEW World Tag Team Champions Cage & Cope team with The Young Bucks against Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia of the Death Riders in front of a red-hot Arena México crowd.

The action broke down almost immediately, with both teams brawling around ringside before the Death Riders slowed the pace and isolated Nick Jackson. Momentum shifted several times throughout the match, with Adam Copeland eventually exploding into the contest after making the hot tag.

Copeland and Matt Jackson briefly had the Arena México crowd on its feet by landing stereo Tiger Feint Kicks on Jon Moxley. Christian Cage followed with a diving headbutt, and the alliance looked ready to put the Death Riders away. However, as often happens in wrestling, timing is everything — and this alliance was never completely on the same page.

Late in the match, Copeland connected with a spear on Moxley, but Wheeler Yuta distracted referee Bryce Remsburg, preventing the count. Moments later, Marina Shafir attempted to interfere before Christian neutralized her at ringside, adding another layer of chaos to an already frantic finish.

The decisive moment came when Matt Jackson and Copeland accidentally crossed paths on the apron, creating just enough confusion for Moxley to strike. The former AEW World Champion rolled Copeland into a schoolboy pin while grabbing a handful of tights, stealing the victory for the Death Riders.

The drama didn’t end with the three-count. A frustrated Christian Cage immediately confronted The Young Bucks, demanding, “What the f happened?”** Despite the tense exchange, the four men eventually walked away together.
