Drew McIntyre’s WWE return could be getting closer now that the former World Champion has finished filming The Last Druid. Interestingly, the update did not come from WWE or McIntyre himself. Instead, it came from his co-star, Russell Crowe.
McIntyre has not appeared on WWE TV since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu. Since then, he has spent much of 2026 working on his acting career. Along with The Last Druid, McIntyre has also been involved with the upcoming Highlander remake.
When is Drew McIntyre returning to WWE?
On August 5, Russell Crowe took to Instagram to confirm that filming for The Last Druid had officially wrapped. Crowe shared a photo of himself working out with McIntyre on set in Spain.
He wrote in the caption:
“In the gym with Drew McIntyre. Good lad. Salt of the earth. Just finishing up the shoot on The Last Druid. We have been shooting in Spain since May. It has been two years now since playing Hermann Goering in Nuremberg. The long sweaty days in the beautiful Spanish sunshine have definitely been a great motivator. As I always say, it’s one layer of tissue paper at a time. Consistency is your friend.”

The news is especially interesting for WWE fans because The Last Druid has been one of the main reasons McIntyre has been away from WWE TV.
McIntyre’s recent trip back home even led to speculation that he could be preparing for a WWE return. However, his team later explained that he had only returned home for a short break before heading back to Spain to finish the movie.
There is also no confirmed release date for the film, although September has been mentioned as a possible window. With filming now finished, McIntyre should have more freedom in his schedule. Moreover, his other movie, Highlander, is already in its post-production stage.
Nevertheless, that does not necessarily mean he will return to WWE right away.
