A screening of the latest Spider-Man film was thrown into chaos after one cinema-goer reportedly cleared the entire auditorium with their rancid farts. Movie fans watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day were forced to abandon the screening on Saturday (August 2) after a foul smell spread through the packed cinema.

Rather than sit through the stench, hundreds of viewers got up and left the darkened screen, spilling into the corridor of the cinema at the Plaza Bocagrande shopping center in Cartagena, Colombia. Footage from the scene shows crowds gathered outside the auditorium, with some people covering their noses as they waited. A person dressed as Spider-Man could also be seen mingling with disappointed filmgoers.

According to local reports, the culprit has never been identified.

It's unclear whether they failed to make it to the toilet in time or if someone deliberately let off a stink bomb as a prank.

The bizarre incident quickly sparked debate online, with social media users sharing jokes alongside their disbelief.

One person said: "There's no respect any more, but I don't think anyone is so rotten as to evacuate an entire auditorium."

Others branded the mystery culprit the film's real "villain".

Despite the disruption, staff did not cancel the screening, although many audience members chose not to return. No injuries were reported and the cinema continued operating its other screens as normal.

What do I need to watch before Spider-Man Brand New Day?

Brand New Day takes place shortly after the events of No Way Home, which followed Peter as his secret Spider-Man identity was exposed.

He enlisted Doctor Strange for help before things go terribly wrong and the multiverse was opened.

Brand New Day now focuses on Peter navigating a new life where no-one remembers who he really is.

Ideally, you may want to refresh your memory and re-watch Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy starting from Homecoming, Far From Home and then No Way Home as these will provide much of the background needed to understand the latest release.

The Punisher and savage Hulk also appear in the new release, however, you do not actually need to watch their own shows/films as long as you have an understanding on who they are.

Spider-Man Brand New Day can be watched in cinemas now.
