Here comes the Bride...zilla.

*The Bride! *star Jessie Buckley tells ** that music played a major role in Maggie Gyllenhaal's bold, new take on the classic Frankenstein story. And she's not just talking about the movie's musical scenes; she's also referring to her own "Bridezilla" playlist on Spotify.

Buckley says she used "loads" of music to develop her performance during filming, curating it into a playlist. And since she's pulling triple duty in the movie — playing Frankenstein creator Mary Shelley, murder victim Ida, and Ida's reanimated corpse who names herself the Bride — that meant she needed all the aural inspiration she could get.

"I needed it all," Buckley tells EW. "Music was a massive part of it."

Thankfully, writer-director Gyllenhaal and her costar Christian Bale (who plays her onscreen love interest "Frank") felt the same way about using music as inspiration for the punk-rock film.

"Christian is a complete music nut," Buckley says. "He's got such incredible taste in music. And Maggie's a music nut too. Most days, we just send music to each other. We didn't really talk that much; we just would send each other different songs."

Gyllenhaal reveals that Bale helped develop the look of his monster character by honing in on punk-rock icon Sid Vicious.

"Christian very early on sent me a Sid Vicious video of him singing, 'My Way,'" the filmmaker tells EW. "And I was like, 'Yeah, okay, our Frankenstein *is* punk in that classic sort of 1981 London way. That's great.'"

Buckley adds that the three of them would send each other all different types of music in a group chat, ranging from the rock band Spiritualized to "really dirty, naughty songs from the 1920's."

"There's this one song called 'Shave 'Em Dry,' which is absolutely hilarious," Buckley adds. "And there's this album called *Ladies and Gentlemen* by a band called Spiritualized, and there's a song on it with the first opening line, 'All I want in life's a little bit of love to take the pain away.' That felt appropriate. Also, PJ Harvey, the Pogues, Sinead O'Connor, Sid Vicious, all these wild, incredible, punk-rock, 1920s tap music. Björk as well, *Vespertine*, 'Pagan Poetry.'"

When it comes to the dark romance that grows between the Bride and Frank, Buckley says that one song in particular kept coming up in conversations.

"Maggie always references the Joni Mitchell song, 'A Case of You,'" Buckley remembers. "Where she sang, 'I could drink a case of you and still be on my feet.'"

It's been more than a year and a half since they finished filming *The Bride!*, but the trio's shared connection to music continues to this day. "We still send each other music," Buckley says. "Even though the film's locked, we have a group chat and we just ping songs to each other. I love it."
