In light of the UCLA womenâs basketball teamâs recent NCAA championship victory, Jimmy Kimmel joked that the players should bring a fake trophy to Donald Trump. The remark comes after it was revealed that the US President did not congratulate the team on their win.
Jimmy Kimmel jokes about giving Donald Trump a fake trophy
The UCLA Bruins womenâs basketball team appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, following their NCAA championship win. Lauren Betts, Kiki Rice, Gabriela Jaquez, and Angela DugaliÄ discussed their victory alongside head coach Cori Close.
At one point during the interview, host Jimmy Kimmel noted that former US President Barack Obama had congratulated the team before asking if they had heard from Donald Trump as well. In response, Rice confirmed, âWe have not.â
Kimmel, who has publicly clashed with Trump in the past, joked, âIâm sure you know heâs busy. Um, heâs in two weeks, youâll hear from him.â The late-night host seemingly referred to the recent two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran.

Shortly after, Kimmel followed up with another jab at Trump, telling the team, âIn the event that you do get invited to the White House and you decide to go to the White House, I have something for you.â
He then brought out a fake NCAA championship trophy for the team and said, âWhat I want you to do is bring this fake trophy weâve made to the White House.â Kimmel added, âHeâs not going to know. But when you bring a trophy, he sometimes takes it and keeps it for himself. So, this is for you guys to take to the White House. And then you can say, âPresident Trump, we want you to have this.â And heâll be so happy. Youâll probably get an endowment, and youâll be able to keep the real one.â
The UCLA womenâs basketball team won the 2026 NCAA championship on April 5, 2026, defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks by 79-51. Although Trump had sent his congratulations to the Michigan and UConn menâs teams for reaching the NCAA finals, he did not send a similar message to the UCLA and South Carolina womenâs teams.
