At the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Justin Long's new movie In Memoriam, the actor tells PEOPLE all about starring in Ariana Grande's latest music video and his wife Kate Bosworth's reaction to the project

Justin Long is peeling back the curtains on his experience filming Ariana Grande's new music video and his wife Kate Bosworth's reaction to the project.

Long, 48, caught up with PEOPLE at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival premiere of his new movie In Memoriamon Sunday, June 7. While chatting about the film, the actor says that costarring with Grande, 32, in the music video for her song "Hate That I Made You Love Me" "was such a blast."

"She loves it, she was so thrilled for me," Long tells PEOPLE of his wife's take on the video. "It was such an unexpected call to get. Ariana had this whole idea of the shoot, I'm so flattered that she wanted me to be involved."

He continued, "She was brilliant, she was so sweet, really such a great person to be involved with. I just loved working with her. It was a blast."

Long portrays a man who embarks on an agonizing journey before he's buried alive by Grande in the music video, which is directed by the pop star's frequent music video collaborator Christian Breslauer. The video opens with a sweaty Long filling a grave he's dug and driving away as Grande's ghost haunts him.

He survives a scary car accident, is set on fire and ultimately buried alive by the pop star.

Long tells PEOPLE he spent two days shooting the video with Grande, whom he describes as "such a great leader and so positive" on the video's set.

"I love the whole concept, and I got really into it. We shot on the Universal set, it felt very old-fashioned. I hadn't shot on film in so long, so I forgot that the stakes are a bit higher, because it's not like you can just burn it," he says. "So that was fun. That was a fun throwback feeling for me to have. She was just such a wonderful person to work with."

"I love the song too," he adds.

Long has been married to fellow actor Bosworth, 43, since 2023. The couple appeared to first start spending time together when they filmed a movie in 2021 and went public with their relationship in 2022. PEOPLE confirmed that Bosworth and Long were engaged in March 2023, and they held what a source described as "an impromptu and casual wedding" in New York City in May of that year.

The actor wrote on Instagram following the release of the "Hate That I Made You Love Me" video that appearing in the video was "such an unexpected gift."

"Thanks to @christhedirector and @arianagrande for insisting this be shot on film and with in-camera effects… and for being so kind to me and to the entire crew (Ariana personally thanked all of the background actors and was so present and positive with everyone… a gem of a person and collaborator)," he wrote in an Instagram caption. "I look forward to one day hearing my grandchild say 'isn't it crazy that Grandpa was in an Ariana Grande music video??'"
