It's not all warm affection when it comes to FX's *Love Story* series — and star Grace Gummer is addressing criticism from her character's real-life son.

After Jack Schlossberg, the son of Caroline Kennedy, spoke out against the Ryan Murphy-produced dramatization of the romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, Gummer reacted in a new interview.

“All I can say is, I really can’t imagine what it’s like to see your life portrayed onscreen," Gummer, daughter of legendary actress Meryl Streep, told *The Hollywood Reporter** *when asked about Schlossberg's criticism.

The 40-year-old added, "My goal was to play her with honesty and compassion and delicacy,” adding that she has an "immense amount of respect" for Caroline, whom she portrayed as part of the lead *Love Story* cast across the anthology's first season.

Gummer told the outlet that she hasn't heard from the Kennedy family directly, but said that she'd "let her speak" if Caroline were to reach out for a conversation.

While speaking out about specific portrayals of real-world figures on the program, Schlossberg — who said he and his mom Caroline were "laughing" at clips from the series — also lashed out at Murphy earlier this year.

"Well, if you want to know someone who's never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy," Schlossberg told *CBS Sunday Morning*'s Mo Rocca in March.

He continued, "I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that's a capital F for fiction. The guy knows nothing about what he's talking about, and he's making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else's life."

Schlossberg also said he hoped that "Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions of dollars of profits that he's making to some of the causes that John championed throughout his life," particularly to "the JFK library to help keep President Kennedy's memory alive, but he's not. He's making money. This is not a documentary. And I'll leave it at that."

*Love Story *chronicles* *the widely publicized romance that developed between Schlossberg's uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Carolyn Bessette, which ended when the couple died in a July 1999 plane crash.
