Netflix star Nims Purja's body has been airlifted from a mountain summit following his death in what authorities are describing as one of Pakistan's most catastrophic mountaineering tragedies.

The Nepalese climber was guiding a team of 10 mountaineers on Broad Peak - ranked as the planet's 12th tallest mountain - in the country's northern region when an avalanche hit around noon on Thursday, July 30.

Seven days following the disaster, his remains were recovered and flown from the mountain peak on Thursday, August 6, alongside the bodies of other casualties: Chinese mountaineer Zhong Wang, and Nepali climbers Nima Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa and Kilu Sherpa. The Alpine Club of Pakistan's President confirmed the development in an official statement. It comes as Reacher favorite Alan Ritchson scored a major Netflix deal after savaging Donald Trump.

"On behalf of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, it is announced with great sadness that, following an exceptionally challenging and technically demanding recovery operation on Broad Peak, the bodies of Nirmal Purja, Wang Zhong, Nima Sherpa and Kilu Sherpa have been successfully recovered and have now arrived safely at Base Camp," he stated.

The statement continued, "I extend my sincere gratitude to the dedicated ground recovery team, led by Mingma G and supported by Sirbaz Khan, Abid Baig, Sherbaz, Dipen Gurung and Pemba Chhewang Sherpa, whose courage, professionalism and selfless commitment made this recovery possible under extremely difficult conditions."

Authorities have confirmed the bodies will be transported to Islamabad in Pakistan following coordination with the embassies of the climbers' respective nations. Nevertheless, several victims' remains have yet to be located, reports the Express.

Nims gained international recognition in 2019 after scaling all 14 of the planet's peaks exceeding 8,000 metres (26,247ft) in 189 days - shattering the previous record by over seven years. His accomplishment became the subject of a Netflix documentary called 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, which premiered in 2021.

Two years afterward, working alongside adventurer Bear Grylls, he was recruited by former Made in Chelsea personality Spencer Matthews to assist in retrieving the remains of his brother Michael, the youngest Briton to reach Everest's summit, who vanished on the mountain in 1999. Their mission was documented in the film Finding Michael, released in 2023.

His passing was announced by his organization, Elite Exped, through an Instagram statement that declared, "Today, it is with profound sadness and immense heartbreak that we confirm that Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja, tragically lost his life following the avalanche on Broad Peak.

"We have also received confirmation that other members of this expedition sadly did not survive. Today, we mourn not only Nims, but every life lost in this tragedy, including his trusted climbing partners and guides, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) and Nima Sherpa."
