Perez Hilton’s family shared he has been “able to communicate” in a new statement shared on his blog on Wednesday, Aug. 5
The blogger, 48, sparked concern online after he appeared to self-harm on a TikTok livestream, which prompted emergency services to respond at his home

Perez Hilton is “able to communicate,” his family shared in a new post on his blog, one day after he appeared to self-harm on TikTok Live.
“Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez,” the Wednesday, Aug. 5, statement shared on reads. “Your compassionate humanity during this profoundly heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express.”
The statement noted that the incident has been “incredibly difficult and emotional” for the family, but that they “remain hopeful” for Hilton’s condition.
“We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope,” the family wrote.
“We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover,” the statement added. “We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so.”
The family concluded the statement by sharing their focus on Hilton’s recovery.

On Aug. 4, the blogger, 48, appeared to self-harm while live on TikTok. A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office (MDCSO) told PEOPLE that deputies were dispatched to the scene upon receiving numerous calls from concerned viewers.
Per dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE, he was later hospitalized after emergency services arrived at his home following reports of a “possible suicide.” Authorities “made entry” into his home around 11 p.m. and were “en route” to a local hospital around 11:30 p.m., the audio revealed.
The sheriff’s office also confirmed to PEOPLE that Hilton was hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act — a state law that allows authorities to hold someone involuntarily for a period of time if they pose a threat of harm to themselves or others.
PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for Hilton for comment.

Before TikTok removed Hilton’s distressing livestream, graphic clips appearing to show Hilton covered in blood circulated on social media. A U.S. spokesperson for the app told PEOPLE on Wednesday that the platform’s automated moderation system flagged the internet personality’s livestream after several minutes and routed it to its moderation team for review. However, a moderation error caused a delay in the livestream’s removal.
The spokesperson added that TikTok alerted law enforcement to the livestream, which the spokesperson said lasted roughly 15 minutes.

The account has been deactivated and was subsequently banned by the social media platform, which noted that the content of his livestream related to self-harm violated TikTok’s community guidelines.
Earlier Wednesday, Hilton’s family shared in an update to his website that he was “receiving medical care” and that the family’s “focus right now is on his well-being.”

“We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time,” they added.
In an statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Golden Artists Entertainment, representatives for Hilton, shared that it does “not have any additional confirmed information to share regarding Perez Hilton’s condition” after previously stating on Tuesday they had not made “direct contact” with the internet personality “despite our ongoing efforts to reach him.”
“Our focus remains on Perez’s health, recovery, and the privacy of both him and his family during this incredibly difficult time,” the team wrote. “We are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from fans, friends and members of the media. We respectfully ask that everyone continue to honor his privacy while he receives the care he needs.”
Bryan Freedman, an attorney and friend who previously represented him for 20 years, told PEOPLE in a statement on Wednesday, “I, like many others, feel very concerned for Mario’s health and I am trying to confirm that he is receiving the care that he needs to fully address the causes and conditions which led to this incident. It feels like a moment that deserves kindness and compassion.”
