Pluto TV noted that the programming collectively honors Van Der Beek's enduring influence on comedy, film, TV and pop culture, inviting audiences to rediscover the characters and performances that continue to resonate across generations.
The streaming channel had also launched a similar tribute marathon and VOD collection after fellow performer Catherine O'Hara died on Jan. 30 at age 71. Movies included in the streamer's offerings earlier this month to honor the Schitt's Creek star were Best in Show, A Mighty Mind and Waiting for Guffman.
Van Der Beek revealed his battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer in late 2024, though he was diagnosed in 2023. The news of his death was confirmed by his family in a statement shared to his social media page.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace," the caption of the family's Instagram post read. "There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
