Sarah Jessica Parker did not need a tutu to bring a little Carrie Bradshaw energy to Lincoln Center. The actress stepped onto the red carpet for the New York City Ballet's 2026 Fall Fashion Gala on October 1 in a romantic Simone Rocha look that leaned heavily into ribbons, embroidery and ballet-inspired styling.

The semi-sheer dress featured floral detailing and long pink ribbons, but Parker's elaborate hair made the strongest case for the Carrie comparison. Her extra-long fishtail-style braid was woven with matching pink ribbon, turning an already theatrical look into something that would not have felt out of place in Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe.

Parker initially posed by herself before husband Matthew Broderick joined her on the carpet in a classic black tuxedo, according to Page Six. The couple held hands for photographers before heading inside the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

Parker has been closely involved with the Fall Fashion Gala since its launch in 2012, and the 2026 event again paired choreographers with major fashion designers for new works created specifically for the New York City Ballet stage.

Parker's Braid Took the Carrie Bradshaw Comparison Even Further

Parker's hair transformed the look from romantic eveningwear into something considerably more dramatic. Vogue reported that extensions helped the Rapunzel-like style fall almost to her knees, while pink ribbon was woven through the hair to mirror the ribbon accents on her Simone Rocha dress.

The hairstyle also put Parker's natural gray on display instead of concealing it. Vogue reported that her longtime colorist, Gina Gilbert of Benjamin Salon, uses a technique known as gray blending, combining Parker's natural gray with brighter highlights to create a more seamless transition between the shades.

The mix of sheer florals, ribbons and statement hair did most of the character work, recalling the kind of elaborate styling Parker became synonymous with while playing Carrie across Sex and the City and And Just Like That.

Her Simone Rocha Look Had a Direct Connection to the Ballet

Parker's choice of designer had an additional link to what was happening onstage. According to the New York City Ballet, resident choreographer Justin Peck premiered a new pas de deux during the gala with original costumes designed by Simone Rocha.

The evening also featured Jennifer Archibald's first commission for the company, created with designer Robert Wun, and Alysa Pires' second NYCB work, made in partnership with Viktor&Rolf. The three premieres continued the gala's central idea of pairing contemporary choreography with fashion designers rather than treating fashion as something confined to the red carpet.

Parker has been part of that relationship from the beginning. The Blavatnik Family Foundation, a supporter of the 2026 gala, identified her as its founding chair and reported that the annual event has raised more than $37 million for New York City Ballet since it began in 2012.

Parker and Broderick Marked 29 Years of Marriage This Spring

The ballet date night came several months after Parker and Broderick celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. The couple married on May 19, 1997, after a relationship that began in the early 1990s, PEOPLE reported while looking back at their relationship for the May milestone.

Parker marked the anniversary on Instagram with photographs and keepsakes from their years together, including a Polaroid-style image of Broderick kissing her forehead. In the caption, she marked the span from May 19, 1997, to May 19, 2026, as “29 years. And counting.”

Their relationship has also repeatedly crossed into their professional lives. PEOPLE notes that the pair shared the Broadway stage in the 1995 revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and reunited professionally for Plaza Suite in 2022. They share three children: son James Wilkie, born in 2002, and twin daughters Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, born in 2009.
