Taylor Swift has sent fans into a frenzy after showing off shorter hair and a return to the curls they remember from her early days in music.
The 36-year-old appeared in a new Instagram photo shared Friday by Official Charts and Universal Music Group. Her blonde hair fell around her shoulders in soft curls, a noticeable change from the straighter style she wore at last weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The photo marked another big week for Swift. Her single “Patient Zero” and the expanded album The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore topped the UK charts at the same time, giving her a fifth Official Chart Double. It comes as Taylor paid tribute to Dolly Parton in her acceptance speech after winning the Video of the Year award at this year's VMAs.

But plenty of fans looking at the celebratory post had their eyes on her hair. “Love the new hair style Taylor Swift!” one person wrote beneath the picture. Another declared, “Love the new look very classy,” while a third said, “Hair giving 1989, fit giving midnights. Fire combo.”
Others were delighted to see the curls again. “HER HAIR IS SO PRETTY!!!!” one fan exclaimed in a reaction to the look, which appeared to bring back a hint of the ringlets Swift wore when she first burst onto the scene.

The singer paired her new style with a maroon sweater, khaki pants and a black belt. She kept her signature red lipstick and winged eyeliner, making the hair the standout change in an otherwise familiar look.
Swift had already surprised fans by trading her longer locks for a shoulder-length cut in August.
At the VMAs on September 27, she wore that style mostly straight, with the ends falling near her collarbone. The latest photo made the cut appear shorter and gave it a softer, curlier finish.
It was a throwback for longtime followers. Curls featured prominently in Swift’s early career, including on the covers of her first albums, before she began wearing her hair straighter. She once joked that the change happened just as she had learned to embrace her natural texture.
Taylor has sported longer hair in the past
Writing for Elle in 2019, Swift said she had been born with “the curliest hair” but that it had become straight. She added, “Please pray for their safe return.”
Meanwhile, “Patient Zero” became Swift’s eighth UK No. 1 single and her third this year.
Two more songs from The Encore, “Cleveland” and “Babylon,” also landed in the week’s top five — giving fans plenty to celebrate beyond the new look.
Swift also made headlines for a more personal reason. Paul McCartney revealed that she asked him to sing The Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at her July wedding to Travis Kelce. The music legend said he suggested she join him and sing it to her new husband.
