Showrunner Gwen Sigan has teased that season 14 “is going to be a real season of change for everybody”
Chicago P.D. is officially returning for another season of crime-fighting in the Windy City’s 21st District.
As announced by NBC in March 2026, the entire One Chicago franchise — which includes Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. — will continue airing back-to-back on Wednesday nights this fall.
Season 13 of Chicago P.D. left off on a cliffhanger, with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi) deciding whether to charge Eva’s sister Shari (Selin Çuhadaroğlu) — who had been missing since childhood — with murder.
In July 2026, showrunner Gwen Sigan told Parade that the writers like the idea of “keeping this cliffhanger open” and that season 14 be full of “change.”
“I expect that next season is going to be a real season of change for everybody, for these characters, for the unit, for the job itself, what that’s all going to look like,” she said. “I think we have so many opportunities. Exciting storylines to play with, hopefully some new things to explore. And we’ve got a lot of different directions to play in.”

How did Chicago P.D. season 13 end?

In the season 13 finale, Eva finally finds her long-lost sister Shari, who was kidnapped as a child. After the siblings reunite, however, Hank and Eva discover that Shari has murdered a sex worker.
Shari claims not to remember Eva or their family and is now married to her kidnapper, Russ Kirby (Lucas Caleb Rooney). Shari then attempts to kill Eva, but Eva manages to kick the gun away right before her sister pulls the trigger.
Russ is killed in the ensuing fight, and Shari is subsequently devastated. The episode ends with Eva asking Hank if her sister will be charged with murder.
Other characters who had big moments in the season 13 finale include Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar).
“Everyone’s leaving season 13 with some big decisions, some big life changes, some big sort of momentous things that have happened,” Sigan told Parade. “Ruzek, obviously, has just lost his father, Atwater’s got a baby on the way. Burgess and Ruzek are moving; they’re going to start fresh in a new area of Chicago.”
She continued, “We have Torres, who’s just found his way back to faith, but what does that look like for him moving forward?”

What will Chicago P.D. season 14 be about?

Season 14 of Chicago P.D. will pick up where season 13 left off and reveal if Shari will face murder charges, according to Sigan.
“We’ll give an answer to what [Hank and Eva have] decided,” she told NBC Insider in May 2026. “Have they decided to bury this evidence or are they going to put it on paper, let it play out as it would?”
The showrunner added, “And then also emotionally, just what that means for the [sisters], for their relationship, whatever they choose. ... I think there’s so much that could happen and sort of needs to happen.”
Sigan also told Parade that, much like season 13, season 14 will be “character-focused.”
Who is in the Chicago P.D. season 14 cast?

So far, seven cast members have confirmed they’re returning for season 14 of Chicago P.D.
In addition to Beghe and Mandi, that list includes Flueger, Squerciati, Hawkins, Aguilar and Amy Morton, who plays Trudy Platt.
Hawkins, meanwhile, is set to depart as a series regular during season 14. He will appear in the first few episodes of the season to wrap up his character’s storyline.
When will Chicago P.D. season 14 be released?

Chicago P.D. season 14 will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, on NBC.
It will air at 10 p.m. ET, after Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. ET and Chicago Med at 8 p.m. ET.

New episodes of Chicago P.D. will be available on Peacock one day after they premiere on NBC.
